The 2010 Camaro is slated to go on sale in the spring of 2009, resurrecting the Camaro brand that ended its original 35-year run in 2002. Chevrolet will have 3 models available: LS, LT, and SS. The LS and LT will both share a 3.6L V6 that produces 300 hp and 273 ft·lbf. The SS with manual transmission will use the 6.2L LS3, producing 422 hp and 408 ft·lbf, while with automatic transmission will use the L99 producing 400 hp and 395 ft·lbf.

2002 Chevrolet Camaro

After a continuous 35-year run, the Camaro would end production with the 2002 model year. A plaque on the dash commemorated 35 years of Camaros. A special 35th Anniversary Edition option was offered for the SS – it included 35th anniversary decals, embroidery on the front headrests, twins stripes down the center of the car, and unique 17-inch wheels. Approximately 3000 25th Anniversary Edition Camaros were produced. Total production for the final year of the Camaro was 42,098.

The 2001 Camaro was the lowest production year ever for the Camaro, signally an end for the Camaro just one year later. The 29,009 Camaros produced in 2001 were mostly due to a declining market but also due to the fact Chevrolet cut the 2001 year short to work on the 35th anniversary cars for 2002. Engine output increased to 315 hp for the Z28 and 325 hp for the SS thanks to the use of some parts from the LS6 used in the Chevrolet Corvette.

2000 Chevrolet Camaro

The 2000 Camaro was basically unchanged from the 1999 Camaro, save for a new four-spoke steering wheel and a new 16-inch wheel option. Without any major changes to the Camaro and nothing really to grab consumer interest, it’s easy to see why Chevy ended the Camaro only a few years later. If Chevrolet wasn’t going to make any changes to compete with the Ford Mustang anymore, consumers were going to stop buying.

1999 Chevrolet Camaro

The 1999 Camaro received minor updates from the previous year. Traction control was now an option for the base Camaro and the fuel tank was enlarged to 16.8 gallons (up from 15.5). This would be the last year for the 1LE performance option. In many ways, this was the beginning of the end for the Camaro. Next year would be the real tipping point for the Camaro’s demise.

1998 Chevrolet Camaro

The fourth-generation Camaro received major changes for 1998. The front end was updated with a more rounded, smoother appearance. For the Z28, the LT1 used from 1993 to 1997 was replaced by the LS1 which produced 305 hp. The LS1 featured an aluminum block as opposed to the iron block of the LT1. The SS produced 320 hp. There were 48,490 Camaros produced for 1998.

1997 marked the 30th anniversary of the Camaro and Chevrolet offered a “30th Anniversary Package” for the Z28 and SS. The package only amounted to white paint with orange stripes (similar to that on the 1969 Camaro). Chevrolet produced 3352 Z/28s and 957 30th SS “30th Anniversary Package” Camaros in 1997.

As with most 1996 vehicle models, the Camaro received new OBD II-compliant engine controls. Base Camaros were outfitted with the 3800 Series II V6. The LT1 in the Z28 now produced 285 hp and 325 ft·lbf. The RS package was introduced as an option for the base Camaro – it was an exterior-appearance package only. The SS package was also insroduced as an option for the Z28. It featured exterior modification similar to that of the RS with a different hood with functional intake and larger wheels. The intake boosted horsepower to 305 hp.

1995 Chevrolet Camaro

Due to emission requirements, in California the base Camaro received Chevrolet’s 3800 Series II V6. While Camaros sold elsewhere would retain the previous year’s V6, the 3800 Series II would become standard across the board in 1996. The Z28 now had the option of traction control. For the exterior, while previous years only had black roofs and mirrors, 1995 received the option of painting the roof and mirrors the same as the body color.

1994 Chevrolet Camaro

The 1994 model year received only minor changes from 1993. The automatic transmission was updated with an electronic controller and the interior gauge cluster used white instead of yellow. It would seem that Chevy wasn’t really trying very hard in ‘94. It’s really too bad. Needless to say the 1994 is not a favorite model year for the Camaro.
