1987 Chevrolet Camaro

April 28, 2009

The 350 TPI was introduced in 1987 for the IROC-Z but was only available with an automatic due to the standard Camaro 5-speed not being able to handle the additional power.  The 305 TPI engine was available with the 5-speed in addition to the automatic.  The Berlinetta model was no longer available, replaced ironically with the LT model (the Berlinetta replaced the Type LT in 1979).

For the first time since 1969, a Camaro convertible was made available for the Sport Coupe and IROC-Z models.  Since 1987 marked the 20th anniversary of the Camaro, all convertibles were 20th anniversary models and received a plate on the dash that read “20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition.”
