As required of all cars across North America in 1986, a Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) was installed.  This was the only year the unit was installed on the outside of the hatchback glass.  On subsequent years it was either integrated into the read spoiler or installed beneath the hatchback glass.  The 4 cylinder option was no longer available for 1986.  The TPI 305 in the IROC-Z dropped from 215 hp to 190 hp.
