In 1979 the Berlinetta model was introduced (replacing the Type LT) which offered luxury features for the Camaro buyer.  Chevrolet continue to offer the previous models as well: base, RS, and Z28.  An electric rear window defroster was added to the options list, replacing the blower based unit.  The 1979 Camaro beat the previous one-year sales record set just the year before and still holds the crown to this day with a total of 282,571 units.
