1971 Chevrolet Camaro
January 6, 2009The 1971 Camaro received only minor cosmetic changes. The big changes came in the engines, where performance was significantly reduced thanks to a GM corporate mandate that required all engines to run on lower-octane gasoline. This necessitated reductions in compression ratings, and thus horsepower. For example, the 350 cubic-inch V8 used in the Z28 dropped from 360 horsepower to 330 horsepower because compression was changed from 11:1 to 9:1. Production and sales numbers dropped in 1971 due to a 67-day GM-wide strike.
