1967 Chevrolet Camaro

April 28, 2009

The inaugural year of the Chevrolet Camaro!  Created in response to Ford’s popular Mustang, the 1967 Camaro remains one of the most popular and memorable Camaro designs.  Cheverolet needed a traditional front-engine, rear-drive platform to position against the Ford Mustang and the Camaro fit the bill.  There were a variety of options to suit the buyer’s taste.  Popular options included the RS and SS designations.  Engine choices ran the gamut – from affordable 6 cylinder models designed to reach a large income bracket up to high horsepower powerplants to lay waste at the track.  The now infamous Z28 option included a high-output 302 engine (which was grossly underrated at 290 hp), upgraded suspension, and various exterior appearance changes.  The first-generation (link to separate page about each generation) style would last through 1969.  Chevrolet sold 220,906 Camaros in 1967, of which only 602 were Z28s.
